Yoshinogawa

OUR HISTORY

Founded in 1548, Yoshinogawa is the oldest sake brewery in Niigata Prefecture, Japan—a region celebrated for its pristine water, snowy climate, and premium rice cultivation. Nestled in the historic town of Settaya, the brewery has been operated by the Kawakami family for over 20 generations, blending centuries-old techniques with modern innovation. They use locally grown sake rice and are brewed with Tenka Kanrosen spring water, a soft, mineral-rich source fed by the Shinano River and melted snow from the Nagaoka Mountains.

The heavy snowfall creates a natural refrigeration effect, ideal for low-temperature fermentation. The region’s climate and water purity contribute to Yoshinogawa’s signature style: clean, crisp, and balanced sake. They offer a wide range of sake—from everyday favourites to premium Junmai Daiginjo expressions, known for specialising in Ginjo-style sake, known for its elegant aroma and smooth finish.
